Local first, from capture to search. Generate reports, scan screenshots with Windows OCR and use offline full-text search with synonyms, singular and plural forms, and typo tolerance. Your history stays on your PC. Every version comes with a Nuclearize button, just in case: delete this installation’s saved data and start fresh, with confirmation before reset.
Add AI when it helps. Bring your own OpenAI API key to enrich screenshot descriptions, with API usage billed to your own account. Keep costs and data sharing under your control by choosing when to enable AI and what your organization permits you to send. Local OCR and search remain available without AI.
For founders, executives and teams, the CLI and JSON output make it practical to query activity, generate reports and connect WorkTrail to internal scripts. Configure its use around company policies and permissions, including whether external AI is allowed. Work across a notebook and workstation using manually transferred archives; there is no automatic cloud sync.
Screenshots and AI analysis are optional. Extras include world clocks, sky views, weather and space weather.

- On-device OCR, not AI: Windows reads text from selected screenshots locally through its OCR component, without calling an AI provider.
- Custom reports for real decisions: choose dates, devices and fields, then export polished Excel workbooks, spreadsheet-safe CSV files or structured JSON.
- A serious CLI for power users: search history, query reports, inspect screenshots, read status and diagnostics, and automate workflows with JSON output.
- Use multiple PCs without a cloud sync layer: each device stays local. Move a private archive yourself only when you choose to transfer your history.

Build it yourself. Know what is supported.
The open-source edition can be compiled as a portable build that runs without installation. It can also run on Linux and macOS, but these are unsupported configurations; platform-specific features may differ or be unavailable.
